Upcoming Alpine A390 Electric SUV Looks Like a Game-Changer for Sports EVs

I’ll be honest—when I first heard Alpine was making an electric SUV, I was skeptical. Alpine, known for lightweight sports cars like the A110, diving into the SUV market?
But after seeing their teaser of the upcoming A390, I have to admit I’m intrigued. Set to debut officially this May, Alpine’s A390 promises a blend of sporty DNA, electric efficiency, and everyday practicality.
The teaser images hint at sleek curves, dynamic proportions, and aggressive styling cues inspired by their racing heritage. Alpine claims this SUV won’t compromise on driving dynamics, which—if true—could set a new benchmark for electric performance SUVs.

As someone who appreciates both driving thrills and daily practicality, the A390 could be exactly what the EV market needs. Even though, I don’t think we’re ready yet for full-scale EV car sales, the infrastructure is simply not there yet, and they are not great on long-distance driving.
If Alpine manages to keep the SUV relatively lightweight and agile, they’ll have a winner on their hands. I can’t wait to see whether Alpine can truly capture their iconic driving experience in this electric SUV format. I’m counting down the days to May for that official unveiling.
Alpine, color me curious!
Alpine Aims to Enter the US Market
The French car manufacturer plans to enter the US market with their new A390 SUV EV in 2027. Curious to see how the public will respond to the style and quirkiness that most french cars have.
Is it Really an SUV Tho?

Ok, look, I know that we’re throwing the SUV word a lot these days, but let’s be real, this doesn’t look like an SUV, they should have done what Ferrari has done with the Purosangue, they deny it being an SUV instead they call it an FUV (Ferrari utility vehicle), I kid you not lol. BMW did the same with X6 and X4 back in the day, and called them SAVs (Sports Activity Vehicle). Anyway, this is just grinding my gears a little bit, and it’s nothing too serious, but yeah, let’s see how the Alpine A390 will fare against SUV-type challenges then.
Interesting Facts & Stats:
- Alpine, owned by Renault, plans to go fully electric by 2026.
- The Alpine A110 sports car weighs just over 2,400 lbs (1,100 kg); enthusiasts hope Alpine will similarly prioritize weight-saving tech in the A390.
- Electric SUVs now represent the fastest-growing segment in the global EV market, projected to grow 25% annually through 2030.
